- W2076799842 abstract "Summary This paper describes the selection and installation of Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) clad flowlines and solid Alloy 625 piping wellhead tie-in for hook-up of wells in the Madden Deep Unit of Wyoming. The highly corrosive nature of the gas, coupled with the anticipated production of elemental sulfur and the close proximity to populated areas, dictated the use of these specialty materials. The special fabrication and installation requirements for CRA clad flowlines including some of the difficulties, are presented. Introduction The completion and production of high-pressure high-temperature gas wells in the Madden Deep Unit of Wyoming has required the extensive use of CRAs downhole due to the extremely corrosive conditions anticipated from the high H2S and CO2 content of the gas. Moreover, the production of elemental sulfur was predicted based on modelling at Alberta Sulfur Research Ltd. Details of the well stream composition and completions were presented earlier, however, Table 1 from that paper is included for reference. The high acid gas partial pressures combined with an elevated surface producing temperature of 325 F challenge the conventional use of carbon steel flowlines with inhibitors. Moreover, at the expected production rates and flowline conditions elemental sulfur was predicted to precipitate downstream of the choke at the flowline inlet. Therefore, it was recognized that at a minimum, injection of a sulfur solvent at the Christmas tree could be required. Design considerations for the flowlines based on flow rates and pressure drops indicated the flowline pressure and temperature would be 3,297 psig and 275 F, respectively. In order to reduce the potential for hydrates during well start-up a line heater was planned for each well between the choke and the flowline inlet. Thus the temperature and pressure downstream of the choke before the flowline inlet was designed for 300 F and 7,000 psig, respectively. Fig. 1 shows a piping diagram for a typical wellsite installation including the line heater. The bends are solid Alloy 625 on carbon steel clad with Alloy 625. The straight runs of pipe before the pig launcher are Alloy 625 lined steel pipe and after the launcher Alloy 825 lined pipe. The line heater is all carbon steel manufactured to NACE MR0l75 since it is only used during cold startup and is purged with sweet gas after use." @default.
