- W2076802174 abstract "Murray and Frenk in their reply 1 Murray C Frenk J World Health Report 2000: a step towards evidence-based health policy. Lancet. 2000; 357: 1698-1700 Summary Full Text Full Text PDF Scopus (73) Google Scholar to my article, 2 Navarro V Assessment of the World Health Report 2000. Lancet. 2000; 356: 1598-1601 Summary Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (137) Google Scholar in which I criticised their World Health Report 2000, begin by presenting themselves as objective scientists who are battling against ideologies represented in criticisms of their report. Their critics range from the Wall Street Journal, a conservative US daily newspaper (whose editorial stance even disputes the notion that access to health care should be a human right), to myself in my article in The Lancet 2 Navarro V Assessment of the World Health Report 2000. Lancet. 2000; 356: 1598-1601 Summary Full Text Full Text PDF PubMed Scopus (137) Google Scholar (in which I assume that access to health care should be a human right in the USA). Murray and Frenk assume that if their report has received negative assessments from both ideological poles, they must be on the right track—ie, objectivity must reside somewhere in the centre. This approach is a cute polemic trick, but profoundly wrong. Editorial opinion from a newspaper with limited scientific credibility, such as the Wall Street Journal, is not comparable to a critique published in a credible scientific journal such as The Lancet. Murray and Frenk's introductory remarks are representative of the laxity of the rest of their response." @default.
