This equates with U.S. providers’ expenditures to EHR vendors and implementation teams. DesRoches and colleagues' study in this issue (3) goes beyond EHR adoption and examines achievement of meaningful use criteria and EHR functionality. Specifically, the investigators sought to determine the degree to which physicians can use their systems to manage their patient populations and physicians’ expectations of the influence of EHRs on health care outcomes and costs.
