- W2077311116 abstract "Type I collagen is a major component of dermal collagen fibers and is produced by fibroblasts. Regulation of type I collagen biosynthesis plays an important role in physiological and pathological phenomena and this regulation often occurs at the transcriptional level [ [1] Ramirez F. Di Liberto M. Complex and diversified regulatory programs control the expression of vertebrate collagen genes. FASEB J. 1990; 4: 1616-1623 Crossref PubMed Scopus (88) Google Scholar ]. Study of the regulation of expression of type I collagen is important for discussing the mechanism underlying the patho-physiology and treatment of dermal fibrosis, a condition involving increase in dermal collagen fibers, and conditions involving decrease in dermal collagen fibers such as skin atrophy and wrinkles. Therefore, analysis of the mechanism of regulation of the transcription of type I collagen is important for discussing the treatment of scleroderma and other types of cutaneous fibrosis. To date, several studies have been carried out to analyze this transcriptional regulation by means of functional deletion analysis of the type I collagen gene promoter region [ 2 Schmidt A. Rossi P. de Crombrugghe B. Transcriptional control of the mouse alpha 2(I) collagen gene: functional deletion analysis of the promoter and evidence for cell-specific expression. Arthritis Rheum. 1998; 41: 2048-2058 Crossref PubMed Scopus (58) Google Scholar ]. In relation to the human α1 (I) collagen gene (COL1A1), such analysis has been conducted only by one study group (Jimenez et al.) [ 3 Jimenez S.A. Varga J. Olsen A. Li L. Diaz A. Herhal J. et al. Functional analysis of human alpha 1(I)procollagen gene promoter-differential activity in collagen-producing and -nonproducing cells and response to transforming growth factor beta1. Under such circumstances, we recently conducted functional deletion analysis of the human COL1A1 promoter region and DNA-binding factor analysis of the transcriptional enhancement region." @default.
