- W2077601483 abstract "Summary Accumulation of cardenolides in somatic embryos of Digitalis lanata strain VII was influenced by light. The embryos were highly sensitive to UV at the developmental state of stage-I-globules, but became less sensitive to UV (and expressed the competence for the formation of chloroplasts and the accumulation of cardenolides) at the developmental state of stage-II-globules. Optimum cardenolide amounts (> 1 µmol digitoxin equivalents g -1 dry wt.) were found in stage-II-globules and bipolar embryo structures by irradiation with white light with photoperiods ≧ 12 h and an energy fluence per day>10 6 J m -2 . Irradiation with large doses of blue or red light yielded higher cardenolide contents than irradiation with yellow-green light. Low doses of light with definite wave lengths originated high cardenolide contents at 460–510nm (blue) and 630–680nm (near red), in contrast to 680–730nm (far red). This may indicate that a blue light photoreceptor and phytochrome, or protochlorophyllide-holochrome are involved in the regulation of cardenolide biosynthesis and accumulation." @default.
