- W2077802936 abstract "Relationships between self concept and teacher competency were examined among 22 female college students in an early childhood teacher training program. The Tennessee Self‐Concept Scale (TSCS) was used to assess subjects' self‐concepts, while the Preschool Teacher Competency Rating Scale (PTCRS) was used to assess aspects of subjects' teacher competency. Pearson correlation coefficients indicated subjects' self‐concept scores were significantly and positively related to their scores on the total PTCRS and its subscales Understanding Behavior, Guidance and Relating to Staff. These relationships also approached significance when teacher competency was assessed with the PTCRS subscales Relating to Children, the Program and Parents. No significant relationships were found between self‐concept and teacher competency when teacher competency was assessed with the PTCRS subscales Evaluating the Program, Staff and Self, although all coefficients were in the positive direction.
