- W2078128583 abstract "Abstract Starting with a simplified tight binding model, we investigate the contribution of elastic processes occurring in chemisorption of atoms at step sites. As an example, we consider the particular case of O on various stepped nickel surfaces. We show that the elastic effects are much more important in the case of stepped surfaces than in the case of flat surfaces. Though our computations do not explicitly give the elastic interaction energy between the atoms chemisorbed at step sites, they give useful information on this energy. Firstly, the elastic interaction along steps is not negligible compared to the electronic indirect interaction, and secondly, the elastic interaction along steps is strongly anisotropic according to the step nature." @default.
