- W2078136173 abstract "From shifts in half-wave potential it is deduced that the semiquinone ions formed by polarographic reduction of anthraquinone in dimethylformamide form a weak 1:1 association with lithium cations with KA about 39. Assocation with sodium, potassium and tetraalkylammonium ions is negligible. The quinone dinegative ions are strongly associated with three lithium cations on the average, in the concentration range studied (0.015 – 0.1 M Li+). Association with the di-ions decreases in the order Li > Na > K > NKt4 > NBu4. There is evidence that the associated ions are not solvent separated. The reduction of the semiquinone ion is not reversible at potentials more negative than about −1.4 V vs. S.C.E. Similar results are obtained in the reduction of p-benzoquinone and chloranil. The semiquinone ion of the latter is unassociated with lithium ions. In acetonitrile, ion-pairing of 2,5 dimethyl p-quinone anions with alkali metal cations is considerable, but the mono-anions are essentially free in tetraalkylammonium solutions." @default.
