- W2078193445 abstract "Nocturnal enuresis is a disorder which has historically attracted a continued interest, not only in its pathogenesis, probably multifactorial but still unknown, but also in its prevalence. To review the medical literature on the subject to know the problems involved in estimation of the prevalence of nocturnal enuresis. A search was made in the Pubmed database using the Mesh terms “enuresis”, “nocturnal enuresis”, and “bedwetting”. The terms “epidemiology OR prevalence” were added in the search box. The search comprised all manuscripts in English and Spanish reporting samples larger than 1000 patients, and included review articles. An analysis was made of the methods used by the most relevant groups and the overall prevalence results. In addition, results were stratified by age, sex, and frequency of wet nights when possible. The methodology used in the analyzed studies was heterogeneous, and comparisons were therefore difficult. Overall prevalence is difficult to estimate, and global results have no interest because their interpretation would require a detailed account of the methodology, sample, and diagnostic criteria. Our own epidemiological study is needed to solve the problem. @default.
