- W2078255231 abstract "Abstract INTRODUCTION A GREAT deal of research has been conducted with synthetic estrogens to determine their effect on market finish, weight gains and feed efficiency of turkeys. Adams (1957), utilizing diethylstilbestrol in pellet, paste, oil solution and liquid, found that the pellet form produced better effects than liquid or oil solution. Dienestrol diacetate in the mash produced no favorable effect on gain, only slight improvement in finish and depressed feed efficiency. Baker, Smith, Zagata and Vecchio (1955), utilizing a paste containing diethylstilbestrol and thiouracil found very little difference in finish between treated birds and controls. Feed efficiency was poor in the treated groups. In general the hormones had a beneficial effect on the hens but not on the toms. Baum, Walkup, Stadelman and Faris (1952) showed that a combination of diethylstilbestrol and thiouracil encouraged earlier finishing but was not economically practical. Davidson, Wolterink and Reineke (1946), comparing diethylstilbestrol and dianisyl hexene,…" @default.
