- W2078391209 abstract "Abstract Cyclic voltammetric studies were made of both graphite disk and platinum spherical micro-electrodes in liquid mixtures of sodium sulphide and sulphur at 350°C. In the concentration region where there is an immiscibility gap, electrode behaviour in the sulphide-poor phase is subject to depletion of sulphide ion during anodization with resulting current oscillations. In the sulphide-rich phase there is an irreversible oxidation process with a current maximum, and the linear nature of the plot of i max vs square root of sweep rate and the linear dependence on sulphide ion concentration suggest a diffusion-controlled process. Also suggesting diffusion control is the dependence of current on real electrode area (a comparison using rough graphite electrodes and smooth platinum ones). Two rises in current are observed when negative potentials are applied. The first is due to the formation of a polysulphide species and the second represents the formation of sulphide ion at a higher activity. The second current surge does not begin to level off even at 5 A/cm 2 at −3 V vs a sulphide-ion-sulphur reference electrode." @default.
