- W2078441336 abstract "The anodic sectioning of Nb and Ta is readily achieved provided an electrolyte leading to a sulfate impurity is used, for example a 1:3 mixture of H2SO4 and (C2H5)2SO4. This electrolyte enables Nb to be sectioned from 1–70V (15–700 Å) and Ta to be sectioned from 1–100V (10–400 Å). The sectioning of W is already well understood, though it is shown here that the upper voltage limit can be raised from 75 to 140 V (400 to 800 Å) if an acetic-acid-based electrolyte is used. The possibility of anodic sectioning with Nb and Ta leads to a better understanding of the anodisation process. For example, the metal-removal calibration can be interpreted as showing that the anodising efficiencies with a sulfate electrolyte are 78 per cent for Nb and 66 per cent for Ta. The impurity concentration was sufficiently marked for films formed on Ta that the ratio (observed anion weight)/(expected anion weight) lay in the vicinity of 1·6. The films formed on Nb had less impurity, with its presence only indirectly inferred as, for example, from the value of dV/dt." @default.
