- W2078479940 abstract "The partial derivative momentum transfer equations for the neutral atmosphere have been solved to determine the meridional wind component for F-region altitudes using the atmospheric temperature, the neutral density and their pressure gradients given by the MSIS model. The electron density and the ion drift measurements from the incoherent scatter radar at St. Santin (44.6°N, 2.2°E) have been used to take into account the ion drag effect. The meridional winds found in this way are compared with those derived from radar observations alone, using the measured drift component along the magnetic field line. The comparison shows that the winds derived by the two methods are in good phase agreement. The two amplitudes are in good agreement in the day-time for all seasons, but for the night-time the agreement is not so good. The MSIS model yields a larger night-time equatorward wind component. The contribution of electric field-induced drifts to the meridional wind component effects a small improvement in the results obtained." @default.
