- W2078489711 abstract "Levels of five lipogenic enzymes of rat liver cytosol rise or fall coordinately in response to nutritional variation. Enzyme activity and immuno-reactivity values bear a constant proportionality (malate enzyme and citrate cleavage enzyme). The patterns of adaptive change are described by the equation d[E]/dt = S − k[E] where S is the rate of enzyme synthesis and k is a first order degradative rate constant. Evaluation of S and k in the transition from an initial level of enzyme to a final steady state tissue concentration indicates that the synthetic parameter is the major determinant. This was confirmed by pulse labeling three cytosol enzymes (fatty acid synthetase, malate enzyme and citrate cleavage enzyme) with 14C-leucine in vivo. During refeeding the rate of synthesis of malate enzyme and citrate cleavage enzyme rises coordinately over a 6 hr span, apparently in response to the same inducing signal. Injections of insulin or thyroxin stimulate the rate of pulse labeling of these enzymes" @default.
