- W2078685328 abstract "A Knudsen effusion method with a mass-spectrometric analysis of evaporation products has been used to investigate the gaseous phase over (xCaF2 + yAl2O3 + (1−x−y)CaO)(l) and to determine thermodynamic properties. The temperature range investigated was 1600 to 1830 K. Compositions varied in the range 1 to 96 moles per cent of CaF2, 0 to 50 moles per cent of Al2O3, and 1 to 65 moles per cent of CaO. In mass spectra of the saturated vapour over the melts, ions AlF3+, AlF2+, AlF+, Al+, AlOF+, CaF2+, CaF+, and Ca+ formed by ionization of the molecules AlF3, AlF2, AlF, AlOF, CaF2, CaF, and Ca have been detected. Ion-current intensities measured that corresponded to the partial pressures of components were used to calculate CaF2, Al2O3, and CaO activities in the melts. The component activities computed by means of two independent methods based on the values of AlF3 or AlOF vapour pressures were in good agreement. This confirms the existence of equilibrium in the effusion cell during the experiments and proves also the reliability of the thermodynamic information acquired. It has been established that (xCaF2 + yAl2O3 + (1−x−y)CaO) is characterized by high values of a(CaF2) and by low values of a(CaO) and a(Al2O3), where a denotes activity, over the whole region of liquid-phase stability. Segregation of the liquid into two phases takes place, one of the phases consisting mainly of CaF2 with small quantities (around several moles per cent) of Al2O3 and CaO and the other containing 50 to 65 moles per cent of CaF2." @default.
