- W2078705512 abstract "Abstract An investigation of the i.r. spectrum of sulfuryl and thionyl fluorides under moderate resolution indicates the majority of absorptions to be accompanied by satellite peaks which, on the basis of temperature dependence and relative intensity calculations, are interpreted as being upper stage transitions. Computer resolution of the temperature dependent overlapped spectral absorptions permit the ratio of peak heights of successive members of the “hot band” sequence to be used as a measure of relative intensities and permit the frequency of the low energy mode involved to be determined. For sulfuryl fluoride the v 4 ( a 1 ) 385.0cm −1 torsional and v 5 ( a 2 ) 389.0 cm −1 deformation vibrations are responsible for such transitions and for thionyl fluoride the v :( a ') 377.8 cm −1 and v 6 (a'') 392.5 cm −1 deformations are found to give rise to the observed “hot bands”." @default.
