B. ; Cowley, A. P. Abstract Thirty-two coude spectrograms of Plasketts's star have been obtained. These show that the primary star has a stellar wind which is stronger from the following side of the star. New orbital elements are presented for lines of different excitation. Lines of the secondary absorption spectrum are distinguished from shell features, and show an orbital velocity indicating a mass ratio near unity. The mass of each component exceeds 55 solar masses. Neither star fills its Roche limiting surface, but it appears that both lose mass to the system. The secondary is underluminous for its mass and may be smaller than the primary. He II emission at lambda 4686 is not strongly associated with either star, and arises in part between the two.
