- W2078824906 abstract "The development of a method for the prevention of infections with influenza A and B virus was one of the important projects undertaken during the recent war by the Commission on Influenza, under the direction of the Surgeon General, United States Army. This effort culminated in the mass production of a vaccine consisting of formaldehyde-inactivated strains of influenza virus, types A and B, and its large scale use in the United States Army. At present this vaccine is commercially available for civilian use and is being utilized widely as a prophylactic agent for virus influenza. The widespread acceptance of this procedure is a commentary on the excellence of the medical research conducted under official direction during World War II. There are, however, certain difficulties in evaluating prophylactic measures for diseases such as virus influenza. The reported clinical studies on which the presently accepted preventive value of this method is based," @default.
