A feature of infection with this pathogen is that disease is almost always confined to the lung, with extrapulmonary spread rarely reported. As a result, recent strategies to prevent pneumocystis infection without causing systemic toxicity have focused on aerosolized drug delivery to the lungs (1).In 1982, a 26-year-old heterosexual male developed stage III testicular germ cell malignancy that was treated with orchiectomy and combination chemotherapy. He did well...References1. GoldenChernoffHollanderFeigalConte JDHDJ. Prevention of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia by inhaled pentamidine. Lancet. 1989;1:654-7. CrossrefMedlineGoogle Scholar2.
