- W2079147537 abstract "The duration of some phases of the generation cycle as well as the time dependency of the DNA-synthesis rate has been determined for a number of cell types of albino mice by means of autoradiography and by variation of the time between injection of [3H]thymidine and sacrifice (10 min–12 h). By counting the percentage of labelled mitoses (related to the total number of mitoses) the duration of the DNA synthesis of the epithelia of different regions of intestine was determined to be 7–8 h. Grain counting over metaphases of intestinal epithelia revealed the same duration for DNA synthesis. The rate of DNA synthesis was found to be constant during the period of replication. Grain counting over labelled interphase nuclei suggested that the duration of DNA synthesis ranges for all diploid cells—and, presumably, even for polyploid ones— in the same order, as was measured directly in the intestinal epithelia. The premitotic resting phase was found to be rather constant (40 min) for intestinal epithelial, but to exhibit a strong variation (between 40 min and more than 12 h) for some other types of cells. Frequency distribution curves of grain numbers over single nuclei were compared with Poisson curves.
