- W2079233135 abstract "Health-related quality of life (HRQL) is an important outcome measure for chronic diseases such as food allergy, for which there is no treatment at present. Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire-Parent Form (FAQLQ-PF) is a multidimensional, parent report measure to assess children aged 0-12 years. The instrument has been validated in an Irish sample. We sought to validate the FAQLQ-PF in a US sample of children. Cronbach's alpha was used to measure the internal consistency reliability of the questionnaire. Item-total consistency was also calculated to check the internal reliability of each subscale. The FAQLQ-PF was subjected to factor analysis to confirm the 3-factor structure. Validity was assessed by means of correlation between the FAQLQ-PF and the Food Allergy Independent Measure (FAIM). 60 parents of food allergic children (1:1; m:f) aged between 0 and 11 years (m, 48 mths;sd 27.2) completed completed the questionnnaire in the Duke Clinical Research Unit. Cronbach's alpha >0.7 for subscales and total score. Construct validity was demonstrated by significant correlations between FAQLQ-PF subscales (rho 0.69 to 0.78, p < 0.01), and the FAIM. Factor analysis confirmed earlier findings of a 3 subscales; emotional impact (13 items); food anxiety (8 items); social and dietary limitations (9 items) accounting for 85% of the variance. Sensitivity was shown by significant within-group differences relating to age, gender, type of allergen and severity (x2 = 20.4, p < 0.01). Psychometric analysis shows that the FAQLQ-PF is a valid measure of HRQL in a US sample of food allergic children. The measure is presently undergoing longitudinal validation in a larger sample." @default.
