The enzymes in the biosynthetic pathway for dopamine, tyrosine hydroxylase and DOPA-decarboxylase, as well as dopamine itself are present in chick ( Gallus domesticus ) retina, whereas neither dopamine-β-hydroxylase nor its product, norepinephrine, are detectable. 2. 2. The membrane fraction of cell-free homogenates of the retina possesses an adenylate cyclase activity which is stimulated by low concentrations (1–50 μM) of apomorphine, dopamine, isoproterenol and norepinephrine; this activation is completely blocked by 1 μM fluphenazine but is relatively insensitive to the β-blocker, propanolol. In contrast, the adenylate cyclase activity of retinal slices is not activated by dopamine or apomorphine but is stimulated by isoproterenol, an effect that is completely blocked by 1 μM propanolo but not fluphenazine." @default.
