- W2079369411 abstract "The effect of light on the centrifugability of chloroplasts has been analysed in cells of Vallisneria for the low and high intensity range. Low intensity light induces a decrease in centrifugability. The action spectrum for this response has peaks at 430 and 480 nm, indicating chlorophylls as photoreceptor. High intensity light induces an increase in centrifugability. Here the action spectrum has peaks at 370 and 450 nm, indicating a flavin as photoreceptor. Metabolic inhibitors have different influence in the low and high intensity range. The decrease in centrifugability is inhibited by DCMU and other photosynthetic inhibitors. The increase in centrifugability, on the other hand, is inhibited by uncouplers of the oxidative phosphorylation and by carboxyatractyloside. The differences in the action spectra and in the influence of inhibitors between the low and high intensity range indicate that different photoreaction systems are involved in the action mechanism of light. For this mechanism an irradiance-dependent control of the availability of ATP has been suggested, which can be caused by a light-induced increase in respiration interacting with photosynthetic reactions." @default.
