- W2079393350 abstract "Glycine and alanine dipeptides were isolated by trapping at 20 °K in an argon matrix. Their ir spectra recorded between 4000 and 200 cm−1 were almost fully assigned by comparison with those of a few isotopic homologues and simpler model compounds. Particular emphasis was laid on structural results. Two intramolecular hydrogen bonded rings C5 and C7 are shown to co-exist. In the case of the alanine derivative, the equatorial C7 isomer (C7 eq) is proved to occur, but no spectroscopic argument is strong enough either to exclude or to confirm the axial possibility (C7 ax). Knowledge of the amide II' is of specific interest when a hydrogen bonding problem involving a secondary amide group is discussed. Such an analysis led to the conclusion that no semi-extended form without intramolecular hydrogen bond is present in the matrix. Qualitative agreement between conformational states of dipeptides isolated in the argon matrix and results of certain conformational energy calculations are noted." @default.
