- W2079429528 abstract "Antisera to four substances were tested in the spider central nervous system and analyzed with special regard to the visual system. γ-Aminobutyric acid (GABA)-, proctolin, Periplaneta hypertrehalosaemic hormone and FMRFamide like immunoreactivity (Glir, Plir, PeaHTHlir and Flir, respectively) could be detected in the visual tracts (VT), interneurons and neuropiles of the spider brain. The four antisera reliably produced four different staining patterns one for each substance. Glir was found in the first- and the second-order visual neuropiles of the principal eyes and the visual tracts of principal and secondary eyes. Several layers of the third visual neuropile of the principal eyes were Glir, as were some large fibres in the third visual neuropile of the secondary eyes. Plir was found in three layers of the central body. The visual tracts of the secondary eyes were stained as well as the third visual neuropile of the secondary eyes. PeaHTHlir was found in the first visual neuropiles of all eyes and in the visual tract of the secondary eyes. Flir was found in the first visual neuropiles of all eyes and in all visual tracts. Nearly all layers of the third-order neuropile of the principal eyes were Flir. From behavioural experiments with spiders we know that different types of eyes serve different functions. Thus, it is probable, that the staining patterns of the four tested antisera indicate the existence of a neuronal substrate used for different functions in information processing between principal and secondary eyes." @default.
