- W2079437551 abstract "The rat has suffered mightily in the quest to mitigate spermatic cord torsion in man, and experiments that would translate usefully to the human condition have gotten increasingly sophisticated. The key issues seem to relate to the ischemia-reperfusion injury and the mystery of contralateral damage to spermatogenesis. Inflammation and Oxidative Stress in Testicular Torsion: Do They Deserve Intensive Treatment to Save Both Guilty and Innocent Testes?UrologyVol. 78Issue 1PreviewTo investigate at the molecular level, whether the combined use of an antioxidant (L-carnitine) and a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor (meloxicam) is effective in the treatment of cellular damage caused by testicular torsion. Full-Text PDF Reply by the AuthorsUrologyVol. 78Issue 5PreviewWe, with displeasure, acknowledge the painful suffering of rats during the progress of the work that we undertook to put forward the beneficial molecular effects of certain substances on testicular torsion. We believe that it is easy to find applications based on similar practices in literature, and that this fact may be used as a sound argument to convince concerned persons. By contrast, there are no clinical studies performed on human beings yet. As enthusiastic medical investigators, we are planning to conduct a prospective study and to apply to a local ethical committee for the probable administration of our drugs to human beings.
