In contrast, the $Pensuremath{-}f$ identity model of diffraction is shown to satisfy a modified form of two-component duality. We show that by incorporating flavoring renormalization, the $P+f$ picture can be made consistent with duality. The unflavored $stackrel{^}{P}$ intercept is 0.91 and the flavored $P$ intercept is 1.1. Significant absorptive $j$-plane cuts are also required, though these are small enough to be consistent with dominant short-range order. Thus flavoring, which is so essential in $Pensuremath{-}f$ identity phenomenology, seems to play a positive role in diffraction scattering generally." @default.
