- W2080291191 abstract "The levels of influence exerted by single and composite grafts of the pars distalis regions and the entire gland on retarded development and growth were tested in partially decapitated (“hypophysectomized”) chick embryos. The parameters were: mortality, external morphology, fresh body weight, toe length, relative duodenal fresh weight, relative duodenal protein content, duodenal alkaline phosphatase specific activity, and thyroid gland weight and histogenesis. All grafts appeared normal cytologically. Single cephalic region grafts repaired most aspects of growth and development in operated embryos. Caudal region grafts were completely ineffective. Grafts of entire glands or of two cephalic regions were no more effective than single cephalic regions in supporting development. Double caudal region grafts were as ineffective as single caudal grafts. Thus, graft influence was regulated in some way. Composite grafts of one cephalic plus one caudal region and of segmented partes distales were slightly less effective than whole gland, single or double cephalic region grafts in supporting development. Apparently, the hormonal activities of cephalic region pars distalis grafts are qualitatively, rather than quantitatively, different from those of caudal region grafts." @default.
