- W2080447178 abstract "An absolute theory-experiment comparison is provided for radar (16 GHz) backscatter from a turbulent plasma at 45 degrees aspect angle and covering the r.m.s. density range from 0.18 to 2 times critical. Both direct and cross polarized returns are considered. Several theoretical models are developed, such as the Born and second Born approximations respectively for direct and cross polarized returns, and their respective modified Born approximations which include reduced attenuation coefficients due to scattering. The optimum reduction factor on the attenuation is found to be 100. The above mentioned theories agree to within 6.5 dB with the experimental results, considering the whole r.m.s. density range and both direct and cross polarization. Experimental backscatter data for a highly overdense turbulent plasma shows that the direct and cross-polarized power returns stay fairly constant above critical density, up to 3.1 times critical." @default.
