• W2080476446 abstract "Twenty three epileptic patients, twelve with a well localized right and eleven a left anterior temporal lobe focus of spikes or sharp waves, were given orally 1 μg/kg of LSD-25 a few days prior and one month after a unilateral temporal lobectomy undertaken for the treatment of their intractable epilepsy. Analysis of variance of the questionnaire administered during the LSD-25 sessions showed highly significant differences in the perceptual responses according to laterality of lesion. Thus it was shown that the right (minor) temporal lobe group was characterized by more perceptual responses under LSD-25 than the left group and that this difference persisted post-operatively. It was also shown that the operation resulted in a decrease of such responses, in both groups. Finally, it was noted that autonomic and somatic responses did not show any similar differences, and were constant irrespective of side of lesion or operation. The results were interpreted as supporting the claim that the perceptual effects of LSD-25 in man depend, as they do in animals, on the temporal lobes. Furthermore it was shown that the two temporal lobes seem to be differentially involved in these processes and that reduction of the available temporal lobe mass by operation leads to a comparable reduction of the LSD-25 perceptual symptoms produced. L'analyse des variances du questionnaire administré durant les sessions de LSD-25 montrait des différences hautement significatives des réponses perceptives selon la latéralité de la lésion. Ainsi était-il montré que le groupe avec foyer temporal droit (mineur) était caractérisé par plus de réponses perceptives sous LSD-25 que le groupe avec foyer gauche; cette différence persistait au stade post-opératoire. Il apparaissait aussi que l'opération entrainait une diminution de ces réponses perceptives dans les deux groupes. Enfin, on notait qu'il n'existait pas de différence similaire dans les réponses somatiques et du système autonome qui se révelaient de facon constante indépendantes du côté de la lésion ou de l'opération. D'après ces résultats on admet que les effets perceptifs du LSD-25 dépendent, chez l'homme, des lobes temporaux comme ils en dépendent chez l'animal. En outre, on a pu montré que les deux lobes temporaux semblent différemment impliqués dans ces processus et que la réduction de la masse de lobe temporal que réalise l'opération entraine une réduction comparable des symptômes perceptifs produits par le LSD-25. 23 epileptische Kranke (12 mit rechtsseitigem und 11 mit linksseitigem umschriebenen Temporalherd im EEG in Form von Spikes und scharfen Wellen) erhielten wenige Tage vor und einen Monat nach einer einseitigen temporalen Lobektomie per os die gleiche LSD-25-Menge pro kg Körpergewicht. Der operative Eingriff wurde vorgenommen, weil es sich um therapieresistente epileptische Leiden handelte. Bei Überprüfung der differenten Teilergebnisse unter der LSD-25-Einwirkung liess sich eine eindeutig signifikante Verschiedenheit innerhalb der Wahrnehmungssphäre und abhängig von der Läsionsseite erkennen. So wurde bei der Gruppe mit rechtsseitigem temporalem Herd (nicht-dominante Hemisphäre) eine deutlich grössere Wahrnehmungsveränderung unter LSD-25 konstatiert, als bei der Gegengruppe der linken Seite. Die Divergenz war auch postoperativ weiterhin zu verfolgen. Es wurde auch deutlich, dass ein operativer Eingriff zur Verminderung pathologischer Antworten führte, und zwar in beiden Gruppen. Sonstige autonome und somatische Reaktionen liessen dagegen eine ähnliche Verschiedenheit vermissen. Sie erwiesen sich auch unbeeinflusst von der Operationsseite. Die so gewonnenen Ergebnisse wurden als Stütze dafür angesehen, wonach die spezifische LSD-25-Wirkung auf die Wahrnehmung beim Menschen, genauso wie bei den Tieren, von der Schläfenlappenstruktur abhängig ist. Zusätzlich ergab sich, dass beide Temporallappen in unterschiedlichem Masse in diese Vorgänge verwickelt sind und und dass eine Verminderung von verfügbarem temporalem Hirngewebe sur Abnahme der LSD-25-Wirkung führt." @default.
