The M 6 C, revealed by magnetic-saturation measurements, X-ray diffraction and microscopy, is formed during the initial stage of sintering, but is dissolved as sintering proceeds. The overall carbon content does not change much between the sintering temperatures. It is believed that the initially nearly stoichiometric (Ti,W)C releases carbon due to its equilibrium carbon content decreasing with increasing temperature, which makes dissolution possible. The temporary M 6 C would not normally be detected, since sample characterisation is in practice employed only after sintering." @default.
