- W2080752802 abstract "Exercise training (ET) has been used as a non pharmacological treatment of hypertension. We have previously observed that the blood pressure reduction following ET in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) is due to a decrease in both resting cardiac output and heart rate. However, the mechanisms responsible for these changes have not clarified. Thus, we studied baroreflex and cardiopulmonary reflex sensitivities at rest in SHR submitted to a 12 week ET (T=9, 50% VO2max) or maintained as sedentary control rats (S=5). Baroreflex sensitivity was evaluated by changes in arterial pressure induced by increasing doses of phenilephrine and sodium nitroprusside (0.025-1.0μg). Cardiopulmonary reflex sensitivity was studied using increasing doses of serotonin (1-16 μg/kg). Mean arterial pressure and heart rate were significantly lower in T than in S (144±3.6 vs. 182±6.2 mmHg; 347±7 vs. 360±21 bpm, respectively). Exercise training markedly improved baroreflex bradycardia and tachycardia that are depressed in SHR(1.86±0.12 vs. 0.7±0.06; 2.91±0.09 vs. 1.78±0.23 bpm/mmHg, respectively). Heart rate decreases induced by 2 and 4 μg/kg of serotonin were greater in T (-209±30 vs. -15±2; -220±39 vs. -19±5 bpm, respectively). Conclusion: The decrease in blood pressure and heart rate observed after exercise training can be partially explained by increase sensitivity of both baroreflex and cardiopulmonar reflex that are usually depressed in SHR." @default.
