- W2080821089 abstract "The effect of the addition of organic solvents and reagents on the absorption, optical rotatory dispersion and circular dichroism of ApA was investigated. The added reagents were dioxane, ethylene glycol, glycerol, dimethylsulfoxide, trimethylphosphate, guanidine hydrochloride, formamide and tetrahydrofuran. In all the solvents the exciton optical activity and hypochromicity are decreased indicating a diminished probability of the stacked form. The ORD and CD were measured as a function of temperature in dioxane-water mixtures. It was concluded that ΔH and ΔS for the stacking interaction are both diminished, the larger proportionate decrease of ΔH leading to a lowering of the transition temperature. All CD and ORD spectra were tested to see if they required more than two optical components. Except for solutions in formamide and 6 m-guanidine hydrochloride, all of the spectra could be represented approximately as linear combinations of two spectra. The limitations and interpretations of the two-state model are discussed. TpT and UpU were also investigated but only qualitative results were obtained." @default.
