- W2080974722 abstract "Optical-excitation spectra in the photon energy range 6-11 eV are reported for Kr and Xe impurities in alkali-metal hosts. The threshold energies for Kr in Rb and Xe in Cs can be predicted to ensuremath{sim} 1% by means of a simple understanding of the impurity structure. For other impurity-host groupings the effect of lattice strain on the observed threshold energy can be identified clearly. The shape of the absorption profiles near threshold cannot be reconciled with current theories of the x-ray edge in metals. However, the experimental results do suggest that the photon absorption process is rather simple, and may leave a single excited quasiparticle in the host conduction band." @default.
