- W2081314161 abstract "Abstract In four patients with aldosterone-secreting adenoma the circadian cycles of Na and Cl excretion show an irregular pattern, poor day-to-day reproducibility, and are easily disrupted by postural variations. Nocturia is due to abolition of the day-time peak by upright posture; the peak is shifted to the time when the patients assume the recumbent position for the night rest. The cycles of urinary K show also an irregular contour and poor longitudinal reproducibility. Upright position, however, causes little or no decrease in K excretion in these patients, as in normal subjects. Renal hemodynamics do not correlate with the renal cycles of Na and Cl. Urinary catecholamines behave quantitatively and qualitatively as in the controls. Aldosterone excretion shows cyclical trends and no postural increase. The data do not favor a role of these hemodynamic and humoral factors in the mechanism of the cycles of Na, K and Cl excretion and of their postural changes in patients with primary aldosteronism." @default.
