- W2082300988 abstract "The interaction of NO with clean and potassium covered Rh(111) surfaces has been investigated by AES, TDS and work function measurements. Preadsorbed potassium exerted a drastic influence on the surface behavior of NO on Rh(111). The most important features were: (i) Potassium adatoms increased the uptake of NO, and (ii) promoted the dissociation of NO. (iii) From θK=0.17 the formation of a new, very stable adsorption state is induced with TP=700–725 K. (iv) The presence of NO altered the desorption behavior of potassium by greatly increasing the potassium binding energy. The desorption observed in the lower temperature range ceased and potassium desorbed (θK=0.17) in two high temperature peaks, TP=870 and 970 K. The effect of potassium is attributed to an enhanced electron donation from the Rh+K surface into the adsorbed NO, to the formation of partially negatively charged NO species, and hence to the weakening of the N−O bond." @default.
