- W2082866997 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. Autoradiographic studies on plant roots and chick embryo cells, in which nucleoli grow mainly during telophase-early interphase, indicate that, in contrast to other cells in which nucleoli grow more continuously during interphase, ribonucleosides are more efficiently utilized than orthophosphate for the synthesis of nucleolar RNA. Orthophosphate is more utilized for the synthesis of nuclear (non-nucleolar) and cytoplasmic RNAs than for the synthesis of nucleolar RNA. 2. 2. In these cells there is a poor entry of orthophosphate to the orthophosphate pool demonstrable in the nucleolus. It is suggested that this orthophosphatt pool is a precursor for nucleolar RNA phosphorus. 3. 3. Some possible implications of the relative inaccessibility of the nucleolus to phosphorus for nucleolar function in relation to other RNAs are discussed." @default.
