- W2082936701 abstract "The paper first presents the physical problem of the spatial resolution of near-field microscopes, which is a key issue for surface and bulk thermal or thermoelastic investigation. Afterwards it reviews the state of the art in the field of thermal and thermoelastic microscopy at the submicrometric scale. The proposed techniques are used to overcome the physical barrier related to the wavelength of the standard optical microscope (when the thermal investigation is based on optical focused beams) and to reduce the size of the thermal sensors at the nanometric scale. The two techniques that we have developed derive from the SNOM and the AFM; in the first experiment an optical fiber is used as a local heat source, showing that a SNOM combines optical, thermal and thermoelastic effects. The second one is based on a self-made AFM which includes both thermoelastic and radiometric detections. Principles and some experimental results are presented." @default.
