- W2083379017 abstract "Evaporated GeS films were studied with respect to optical and thermal properties and photoinduced structural changes. The optical and thermal properties are substantially different from those of the glassy specimens. For GeS2 films the optical band gap and the glass transition temperature are lower respectively by 0.7 eV and by 100 K than those of the bulk, and these differences still remain after the films have been annealed. On band gap illumination GeS films are bleached, and the magnitude of the bleaching depends on the ambient air pressure during the illumination. These observations can be explained with the structural model in which the films contain a large number of dangling and homopolar bonds and the photobleaching results from the oxidation of germanium atoms. The reversible photodarkening shows a maximum at the stoichiometric composition GeS2." @default.
