It focuses on enzymes and the tools that exist for their analysis makes the Chlamydomonas system an excellent paradigm for understanding both ciliary/flagellar motors and the closely related enzymes present in cytoplasm. The two groups of dyneins, monomeric and oligomeric motors, is covered in the composition of purified dyneins. Because no mutants are available that lack dynein species b and g, the subunit composition of these enzymes has not been firmly established and they also may have subunits in addition to actin and centrin. Molecular mechanisms of force generation is well explained. Chlamydomonas has proven to be an exceptional model organism for studying flagellar dyneins, and based on genetics and biochemistry we now have a reasonably clear understanding of the composition of various dynein particles and of their approximate location, although there is clearly more to be learned in this regard." @default.
