- W2084014711 abstract "A study was performed to compare selected bone allograft systems in the mandible of dogs by radiography, radionuclide bone imaging and histologic analysis. The following graft systems were placed in two centimeter defects in the mandible of 24 dogs: lyophilized allografts augmented with autogenous cancellous marrow (LA/ACM), lyophilized allografts augmented with crushed cortical allogeneic bone (LA/LCC), lyophilized crushed cortical allografts retained in a millipore filter (LCCcMF). Contralateral mandibular autografts served as controls. Mandibular radiographs, radionuclide bone images and image profiles were obtained at weekly intervals up to three or six weeks at which intervals half of the animals in each group were sacrificed. Radiographs, bone images and image profiles, and end point histology were evaluated and compared. All osseous allograft systems showed repair potential. Radiographic interpretation of the progress of osseous repair was inconclusive in all the groups. Evaluation of osseous repair by radionuclide bone imaging was feasible, and the bone images and image profiles correlated with the histology. More precise objective analyses of sequential osseous repair in mandibular sites by noninvasive methods will be dependent on improved localization and quantitation in radionuclide studies." @default.
