- W2084329060 abstract "The uptake of adenine-8-C14 into isolated nuclei of rat liver was studied. Maximal uptake occurs at 37.5 °–40 °C and at pH 6.5–7. Two processes can be distinguished for adenine uptake: diffusion, and a saturatable carrier process, the latter process resulting in a concentrative accumulation of adenine in the nucleus. At an extranuclear adenine concentration of 0.02 mM, the carrier process is predominant, and the distribution ratio (ratio of intranuclear adenine concentration to extranuclear adenine concentration) is found to be approximately 3.6. The carrier process is saturated at extranucler adenine concentrations of approximately 0.20 mM and higher. At adenine concentrations greater than 0.20 mM, diffusion becomes the predominant process. The uptake of adenine into isolated nuclei is inhibited by magnesium ion but is not appreciably affected by the presence of Na+ ion, or by iodoacetamide or sodium cyanide." @default.
