- W2085157781 abstract "Angle-dependent electron scattering measurements of adsorbate-induced vibrational modes are reported for a saturation coverage of chemisorbed H on W(100). While only a single energy loss (130 meV) is resolved in the direction of the specularly reflected electron beam, additional losses (80, 160 and 260 meV) appear at angles away from the specular direction. All of the fundamental (lattice) modes of H occupying a C2v point group symmetry bridge site are thereby resolved. The angle dependence of the differential inelastic scattering cross sections of these hydrogenic modes allow a clear distinction to be made between modes derived from motions of the H atoms corresponding to vertical and lateral displacements relative to the surface. The results are shown to be important in the context of current theories of the interaction mechanism of low energy electrons with surface vibrations." @default.
