- W2085304429 abstract "Reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS), thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS) and LEED patterns have been used to identify and characterise three distinct coverage-dependent phases for CO on Co{1010}. In the fractional coverage range 0 < θ ≤ 0.5 there is a single desorption peak, at ∼ 400 K, associated with a p(2 × 1) LEED pattern and a CO stretch in the range 1972–2020 cm−1, attributed to CO in on-top sites. Over the range 0.5 < θCO ≤ 1.0 a second desorption peak appears at ∼ 340 K, and a (2 × 1)p2mg structure develops associated with alternately tilted CO on bridged sites. The bridged CO, distinguished by a CO stretch at 1900 to 1967 cm−1, completely replaces the low coverage on-top species. Finally, in the coverage range 1.0 < θCO ≤ 1.055 the infrared spectra are dominated by a band at 1984 cm−1 associated with a low-temperature desorption peak at 232 K and a continuously changing LEED pattern which develops into an apparent c(2 × 6) structure. These final structures are a distinctive feature of the hcp {1010} surface. The fcc {110} surfaces are saturated with one CO per surface layer metal atoms; here a larger coverage is achieved due to the lower density of surface layer metal atoms." @default.
