- W2085441617 abstract "Static contact angles have been measured during the deposition of 22-tricosenoic, behenic, archidic and stearic acids on silicon over a range of deposition pressures. The difference between the immersion and withdrawal angles was observed to decrease with increasing film thickness for the first 19 layers. In the static limit and in the absence of pinning of the triple line, the immersion and withdrawal contact angles are expected to be the same, after the deposition of sufficient layers to remove effects due to the substrate. This is confirmed in the case of 22-tricosenoic acid for deposition pressures at or above 35 mN M-1. In general, however, it is found that the two contact angles are different even after a very large number of layers have been deposited. A model for the transfer of molecules from the water surface to the substrate in which there is a reorganization of the molecules between the downstroke and the upstroke is discussed to explain these observations.From the contact angle measurements the change in surface free energy relative to the substrate is calculated for each successive layer." @default.
