- W2085454770 abstract "The GH response to clonidine has become one of the most frequently used biological markers in psychiatric research. Blunted responses are observed in depression, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder; unfortunately, however, the diagnostic confidence of the test is low. In depressed subjects, the abnormal GH release after clonidine administration appears to be a trait rather than a state-dependent marker. Antidepressant drugs, as well as lithium, per se cause a decrease in GH responses to clondine, and it is also possible that alcohol consumption interferes with the response. In patients with essential hypertension, GH responses to clonidine are blunted, while in patients with chronic somatic illness, the response is exaggerated during exacerbation. Animal experiments indicate that sex steroids may influence the response, and it is well established that postmenopausal women are often non-responders. Whether clonidine induced GH relase is different in different phases of the menstrual cycle is a..." @default.
