- W2086056768 abstract "A rapid assay for pregnanediol (PD) and pregnanolone (Pol) in urine is described. After hydrolysis at 100° in 1N-HCl for 12.5 min and extraction into chloroform, the urinary steroids are analysed by gas chromatography on an XE60 column. 20 samples may be prepared for gas chromatography within 1.5 h. Pregnanetriol interferes with the assay and prevents its use on urine from patients with congenital adrenal hyperplasia (21-hydroxylase defect). Twenty-three normal men aged 19–47, had a mean PD+Pol excretion of 0.39 mg/24 h (<0.1–1.0), 13 normal women in the proliferative phase of the menstrual cycle excreted 0.40 mg/24 h (0.1–0.9) and 17 in the luteal phase 4.60 mg/24 h (1.5–12.2). Twenty-two women aged 17–35, with anovulatory cycles or with amenorrhea, excreted 0.41 mg/24 h (<0.1–1.5). Eight women in the second trimester of pregnancy had a mean PD+Pol excretion of 28 mg/24 h (8–73) on 15 occasions and 24 women in the third trimester, 67 mg/24 h (16–125). Two women with twins excreted 106 mg/24 h (82–150) on 4 occasions in the 29th to 35th weeks of pregnancy." @default.
