- W2086242502 abstract "Abstract Contrast thresholds were measured for moving stimuli which were viewed through an image stabilization system to eliminate visual stimulation by eye movements. For most experiments, I Hz square-wave or triangular-wave motion was used with amplitudes from 0.5′ up to about 2°. For a fine line, the lowest threshold occurred for triangular-wave motion of velocity 0.5–1 deg/sec; the threshold for optimum square-wave motion (8′ jumps in position) was about 1.5 times higher and the threshold for on-off presentation was still higher. Sensitivity (reciprocal threshold) increased linearly with amplitude for amplitudes up to 2′ or 4′. For continuous motion of small amplitude, thresholds depended on amplitude rather than velocity, whereas the reverse was true for rapid motion. Threshold amplitude curves for an edge were similar to those for a fine line, but the minimum thresholds occurred at larger amplitudes." @default.
