- W2086291127 abstract "The Aguilón Subbasin (NE Spain) was originated daring the Late Jurassic-Early Cretaceous rifting due to the action of large normal faults, probably inherited from Late Variscan fracturing. WNW-ESE normal faults limit two major troughs filled by continental deposits (Valanginian to Early Barremian). NE-SW faults control the location of subsidiary depocenters within these troughs. These basins were weakly inverted during the Tertiary with folds and thrusts striking E-W to WNW-ESE involving the Mesozoic-Tertiary cover with a maximum estimated shortening of about 12 %. Tertiary compression did not produce the total inversion of the Mesozoic basin but extensional structures are responsible for the location of major Tertiary folds. Shortening of the cover during the Tertiary involved both reactivation of some normal faults and development of folds and thrusts nucleated on basement extensional steps. The inversion style depends mainly on the occurrence and geometry of normal faults limiting the basin. Steep normal faults were not reactivated but acted as buttresses to the cover translation. Around these faults, affecting both basement and cover, folds and thrusts were nucleated due to the stress rise in front of major faults. Within the cover, the buttressing against normal faults consists of folding and faulting implying little shortening without development of ceavage or other evidence of internal deformation. Le sousbassin d'Aguilón s'est formé pendant la phase de rifting du Jurassique supérieur-Crétacé inférieur par l'activation de failles normales, qui sont probablement des fractures tardihercyniennes remobilisées. Les failles normales WNW-ESE limitent deux grandes zones de sédimentation qui sont remplies par des dépôts continentaux (Valanginien-Barrémien basal). Les failles NE-SW ont contrôlé la localisation des dépocentres principaux dans ces zones subsidentes. Pendant le Tertiaire, ce sous-bassin a subi une inversion tectonique avec des plissements et des chevauchements orientés E-W à WNW-ESE qui affectent la couverture mésozoïque et tertiaire, avec un raccourcissement voisin de 12 %. La compression tertiaire n'a pas produit l'inversion totale du bassin mésozoïque mais les structures d'extension crétacées sont responsables de la localisation des grands plis tertiaires. Le raccourcissement de la couverture pendant le Tertiaire a produit, d'une part, la réactivation de quelques failles normales, et d'autre part, le développement des plis et chevauchements enracinés au niveau des échelons extensifs du socle. Le style d'inversion dépend principalement de l'existence et de la géométrie des failles normales limitant le bassin. Les failles normales à fort pendage ne sont pas réactivées mais produisent un effect de buttressing sur la couverture. Autour de ces failles, qui affectent le socle et la couverture sédimentaire, se forment les plis et chevauchements résultant de l'augmentation des contraintes au front des failles majeures.
