- W2086545089 abstract "Much has been written about behavior therapy and the literature is replete with reviews too numerous to enumerate here. That sexual deviations may be in part learned phenomena is far from new; Binet made this contention as long ago as 1888. However, until very recently the clinical application of conditioning and learning theory principles to the treatment of sexual deviations had been neglected. This may be usefully contrasted with the treatment of alcoholism, where the nineteen forties and earlier witnessed a tremendous interest in the development of a conditioned aversion to alcohol by means of unconditioned nausea-inducing stimuli such as emetine and apomorphine. However, for a variety of reasons (such as lack of scientific acumen, sadly inadequate knowledge of the principles of conditioning and learning, and the unfortunate selection of drug-induced emesis as the method of choice to induce the conditioned aversion) both the success rate and the interest in such techniques waned steadily in the following years and it was not until the late fifties that a resurgence of interest in this method of treating alcoholics arose (Franks, 1 963a, 1966)." @default.
